anti system were formed in late 1981 by drummer phil dean from remnants of another bradford band the insane (complete disorder). the band was started after phil saw anti sect support discharge, he realised that he wanted to form an heavier sounding band. the original line up was dom watts (guitar) george clarke (bass) phil dean (drums) and dave damned (vocals). having practiced for a few months dave damned was replaced by nogsy and went on to record there first demo at lions studio leeds. tapes were sent round to various record labels and the band decided to go with sheffield based label PAX. anti system's vinyl debut was two tracks on the punks dead, nah mate compilation. the songs were break out and mans world.
