The quote that defines the overall theme of this record is brought to us by the Hanson Brothers with the opening track "Hockey Night Tonight": "Don't want no karaoke, don't want to do the hokey pokey, fry up another smokey, it's hockey night tonight." A compilation that's entirely dedicated to hockey, Puck Rock Vol. 1 pays tribute to the only sport that makes a lack of front teeth look fashionable. Of course all the bands on here are from Canada, the most notable being SNFU, Joey Shithead and Cub, Huevo Rancheros, D.O.A. and the Smugglers. But with practically every song concerning the topics of icing, the penalty box, hockey fights, etc., this is one of those rare comps that could be enjoyed just for the concept alone.
